SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) — Educating people about American Indian culture and destroying stereotypes will be the focus of this weekend's Native American Festival & Mini Pow Wow in Southfield.
Master of Ceremonies Bill Memberto is director of family services for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. He tells the Detroit Free Press that the 17th annual event is designed to show "who and what Indian people really are."
The festival features dance, music, food and pottery. It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southfield Civic Center.
