Lawyer: Kilpatrick is in Carlita's 'Doghouse'

Last Update: 11/04 3:46 pm

DETROIT (AP) — A lawyer for ex-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick says his client "is in the doghouse" with his wife and that's why he couldn't provide specific answers during testimony about his family's finances.

Michael Alan Schwartz also tells The Detroit News that claims made by Wayne County prosecutors of $1 million moving through five accounts controlled by Carlita Kilpatrick are "off by at least $400,000."

Kilpatrick testified last week during a hearing to determine the status of his current income that he signed over at least $150,000 in checks from a $240,000 loan given to him by four of Detroit's most influential businessmen.

Kilpatrick owes the city $914,000 in restitution and has been ordered to make $6,000 monthly payments. He says he has only $6 per month left after expenses.

The hearing resumes Nov. 17.
