Storms leave thousands in the dark across metro Detroit

(WXYZ) - Approximately 50,000 DTE customers are currently without power because of severe weather.

That number is expected to keep growing as the evening progresses.

DTE issued the following breakdown of the outages:

  • Oakland 19,000
  • Wayne 16,000
  • Macomb 6,000
  • Washtenaw 4,000

The rest are scattered.

This is the second round of outages, following the first round of intense storms this morning. Those storms left approximately 34,000 in the dark.

There were also several delays at Detroit Metro Airport's North Terminal this morning due to power outages.

DTE crews are working to restore service.
