(WXYZ) - Across the nation thousands of activists are gathering to protest taxes and government spending in what are being called Tax Day Tea Parties.
MICHAEL ROSENFIELD REPORTS IN THE VIDEO PLAYER ON THE RIGHTThe events have been organized with very little top down effort. Most of it has come from online social networking. A number of events are planned in our area.
At noon, events were held in Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Saline, Ypsilanti and Farmington Hills. Designated locations were set up, with many of them being at local city hall buildings. In Chelsea, protesters plan to gather at Pierce Park Pavilion at the corner of M-52 and Will Johnson Drive.
The activist organization "Americans For Prosperity - Michigan" is also hosting a noon Tea Party in Lansing. It takes place on the east side of the State Capitol Building, and will will feature Samuel Wurzelbacher, who is also known as Joe the Plumber.
Other events will take place in:Grosse Pointe from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the War Memorial
Livonia from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on sidewalks at Haggerty Between 7 & 8 Mile
Plymouth from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Kellogg Park
Port Huron from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
St. Clair Shores from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on the northwest corner of 11 Mile and Harper
South Lyon from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Troy from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
