CANTON, Mich. (WXYZ) - Two young boys are speaking out after surviving a frightening fall through the ice.
IN THE VIDEO PLAYER ON THE RIGHT, THE BOYS TALK ABOUT THEIR TERRIFYING EXPERIENCENolan Gerou and David Bindon were walking on the ice of a retention pond in Canton Twp. when they heard cracking noises. They suddenly fell through and went under water.
They kept trying to climb out but the ice kept breaking and they kept sinking back into the water.
Nolan and David struggled to get out when they finally hit clay on the side of the pond. Nolan helped boost David out, then David pulled Nolan to safety.
The boys walked home soaking wet and shaken up. They wanted to share their story to warn other kids about their experience.
Canton Fire Chief Mike Rorabacher is urging children to stay away from these types of ponds even if they look like they are completely iced over.
