GM to Close 13 Plants, Cut Production

DETROIT (WXYZ) - General Motors has announced the schedule of plant closings for the summer. The company is scheduling multiple down weeks at 13 plants across North America.

Thirteen assembly plants in the U.S. and Mexico will shut down as the company tries to reduce its bloated inventory because of plunging sales.

Plant closures will begin in May and will close for 9 to 10 weeks.

Stamp metal parts and build engines and transmissions factories may also see temporary closures.

  • U.S. and Canadian assembly plants are scheduled for traditional summer
    shutdown the weeks of 6/29 and 7/6, except:

·  Lansing Delta Twp. is scheduled for production the weeks of 6/29 and 7/6

·  Fairfax is scheduled for production the week of 7/6
