DETROIT (AP) - Construction is wrapping up on a 1.5-mile stretch of Interstate 75 in southwest Detroit that has been closed for more than a year.
The roadway is expected to reopen Thursday, just in time for the Fourth of July weekend.
That's about five months ahead of schedule.
Michigan Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Shreck credits $8 million in incentives for contractors and good weather for the early reopening.
MDOT says a ribbon-cutting is planned for June 29.
I-75 between Rosa Parks Boulevard and Clark Street was shut in February 2008 as part of the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project. It includes reconstructed freeways, a new interchange for I-75 and I-96 and a redesigned plaza for the Ambassador Bridge.
