LINCOLN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - A strip club located very close to a church is just a bump and grind away from officially opening its doors to the public.
Members of the Faith Christian Assembly Church in Melvindale received disappointing news as they gathered for their Wednesday night service. The Hustler strip club across the street and down the block got the green light to open its doors. The state liquor control commission approved the club's liquor license.
Pastor Frank Julian has waged a religious war against the club, writing letters, holding vigils and passing out petitions. But now he says he will change his strategy.
"If they're there, we're going to love them," said Julian. "I've got a feeling that one of them, or maybe more, will pull into this parking lot. And we'll be there for them."
The strip club is expected to open within a week, once it stocks its shelves and polishes the stage and gets one final inspection. Parishioners who can see the Hustler sign out the church window say they are worried. But others who live nearby say they see nothing wrong with a strip club in the city, as it will bring jobs and revenue to Lincoln Park.
