Normal punishment for first time arsonists in Detroit/Wayne County is probation. Probation! We are telling these criminals that it is not a big deal to us that you are burning these homes, destroying our neighborhoods and causing home values to whither to nothing. It is no big deal that our firefighters are risking their lives and health putting out the vacant bldg.fires trying to save what is left of the neighborhood or maybe the occupied house next door!Until the people who run this city send a clear message that we will not tolerate this senseless raping of our communities nothing will change. Detroit has nearly 10,000 arsons per year (and another 20 to 30,000 fires deamed suspicious in nature) and the fire department has done nothing to fortify or step up investigations of such fires. In fact, they have eliminated investigators. No where else in the world do they allow such destructive behavior to go on unchecked and unpunished. Detroit may have 50 fires in a 24 hour period with 40 being suspicious in nature or deemed an intentional set...(that's right, 90% of all fires occurring in Detroit are intentionally set, for profit, for fun or for revenge)...but with the lack of importance put on these fires, Arson Section investigators might only investigate 4 to 6 of those 50 fires! Can you believe that! It's like saying...we're not even going to try to stop you arsonists! We give up...we'll just go thru the motions while we hope you get a conscience and decide not to burn anymore...please! This has been an epidemic for 30 years in Detroit and how we battle it has gone unchanged! Wake up you city leaders! Wake up you Fire Dept. Commissioners! Detroit is on its last breath! Someone better change how we look at murderers, not only of our firemen but also of our neighborhoods, our hopes and our future...a little bit differently! Good Luck Mr. Bing...you've got quite a job ahead of you. Pick leaders with integrity, imagination and tenacity to lead your team!!

The Liberals legitimize these sociopaths by creating excuses for them.I never hear a Liberal start running their mouth unless they are somewhere where they can be protected or there are impartial witnesses.Never when it is just Peppino,B1BLancer and sylvesterq04 in the room. Then the Liberals are quiet.

When society decides to stop coddling these pieces of human garbage and start dropping the hammer on them when they commit heinous crimes such as murder, rape, arson and so on. When I say hammer, I mean the punishment should fit the crime. If this man is found guilty of the arson that led to the fireman's death, then I believe he should be thrown into a burning building to make restitution. I don't believe criminals will stop and think about what they are doing until they realize that the possible consequence of their action WILL BE their death and it may be a horrifying one. But alas, those dribbling liberals will never allow that and they'll keep coddling these pukes and saying how they are just products of their environments. I have a .45 and a CCW. Wait till some product of his environment decides he's going to take his anger out on me. He'll never make it to court where the liberals can coddle him.

Borrow the money! Look at it as an investment, maybe there won't be anymore Firemen leaving their families behind. Who funded the Tiger Stadium demolition? Seems they were in a big hurry to raze that structure. I can point to a number of vacant buildings within a quarter mile radius in Detroit that have been vacant since I was a kid. Just don't understand how they think. Maybe I need a secret decoder ring...

Demolishing them, who is going to pay for it? Should be the property owners but the city wouldn't do that. All they do in Detroit is murder each other, just for fun, nobody cares about life. Trash breeds trash. All that is left in Detroit is garbage.

So many vacant structures in the city... Wonder if they ever thought about demolishing, at least, some of them?

This is yet another reason why we need the death penalty in Michigan. This guy was just doing his job and was murdered.

I'm a firefighter in the State of Michigan, I've been burned several times, had the roof and floors leave my feet, in my 19 years on the job. I believe all arsonist should pay the price for their crime. Put the arsonist in the burning structure. Let them feel the heat for a change.
