DETROIT (WXYZ) - He used to report the news. Now, he's making it.

Former TV anchor/reporter Charles Pugh will be the next president of the Detroit City Council, leading the pack of five newcomers who were voted in Tuesday night.

Pugh, former police officer Gary Brown and former city council chief of staff Saunteel Jenkins were the top three vote-getters. Brown will serve as the council president pro tem with his second-place finish.

Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. finished fourth. He will be president until the first of the year. The only incumbent who lost was Councilwoman Alberta Tinsley-Talabi, who was in 11th place.
