DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - A suspected thief is in serious condition after being shot during what witnesses say was an attempted robbery of a church.
It happened Sunday evening at the Westside Bible Church at 7 Mile and Winston. Police say the suspect rode to the church on his bike.
The pastor, who is a retired Police Lieutenant, was called to the scene by the burglar alarm company.
Witnesses say he confronted the suspect, shooting him after the suspect tried to hit him. The pastor then held the suspect at the church until officers could arrive.
