The 40-year-old murder suspect appeared in court Tuesday morning. He's accused of killing his parents Ronald and Christine Jabalee in their New Baltimore home in 2006.
He was arrested on Friday after being indicted by a grand jury. Investigators say he threatened his uncle who testifed before that grand jury. They also say he's addicted to the painkiller Vicodin, and had taken 14 of the pills on Friday alone. There are allegations Jabalee promised to fight police if they came to arrest him, and prosecutors also say Jabalee has made incriminating statements to family members.
For all of those reasons, as well as the murder charge, prosecutors argued against bond. But at the bond hearing, the judge granted a one million dollar cash surety bond with certain conditions, including a GPS tether, daily drug testing and limited contact with grand jury witnesses.
Jabalee's attorney argued his client has no criminal history, has a strong business and family and would not be a flight risk.
He's set to be arraigned on Monday.
