Upcoming H1N1 Vaccination Schedule

(WXYZ) - County health departments are holding a number of vaccination clinics for the H1N1 flu virus. Check out the list of clinics in our area, and find out who can get vaccinated now.

DETROIT

Vaccine supply is extremely limited and the CDC recommends that priority groups should receive the vaccine first:
  • Pregnant women
  • Children six months to five years old
  • Caregivers, Parents, Siblings in the home of the child younger than six months old 
  • Five-year to 18-year olds with underlying illnesses
  • Healthcare workers and emergency personnel that have direct patient contact

The health department clinics are running a regular weekly schedule at Department of Health & Wellness Promotion clinics. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Vaccines will be provided in the community at the following locations:

WAYNE COUNTY

Due to a limited supply of the injectable version of the H1N1 vaccine, Wayne County will offer the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine at public health clinics.

The Wayne County Department of Public Health is offering the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine to Wayne County residents in H1N1 targeted at-risk groups.

The FluMist will be administered through Public Health’s clinics in Wayne, Taylor and Redford. The next mass community clinics are scheduled for Nov. 14 in Hamtramck and Livonia.

The nasal spray can be given to the following healthy, non-pregnant individuals:
• 2 through 24 years of age.
• 25 through 49 years of age, who live with or care for someone less than 6 months of age.
• 25 through 49 years of age, who are health care workers or emergency medical personnel.

“Due to the high demand for the H1N1 vaccine from residents and additional supplies recently received of the nasal mist, we now offer the FluMist and the injectable vaccine for certain individuals in specific groups.”

The injectable vaccine will be available for:

• Pregnant women.
• Children, six months to two years of age.
• People with certain underlying medical conditions and individuals age 50 and older in the target group.

MACOMB COUNTY

Macomb County announces additional communitywide H1N1 flu vaccine clinics Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 24 Noon - 7:00 p.m. at Freedom Hill.

Those eligible to receive this version of the vaccine include healthy people 2 to 49 years old, who are not pregnant. The vaccine is available free of charge.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that the following individuals should not receive the nasal spray vaccine:

• Children younger than 2 and adults 50 years and older
• Those who have a severe (life-threatening) allergy to eggs or to any other substance in the vaccine
• Pregnant women
• Anyone with a weakened immune system
• Anyone with a long-term health problem, such as heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney or liver disease, metabolic disease such as diabetes, anemia and other blood disorders.

This injectable H1N1 vaccine is for:
  • Pregnant women
  • New parents and household contacts of children <6 months of age
  • Health Care workers and Emergency Service sector personnel (regardless of age)
  • All people from 6 months through 24 years of age
  • Adults (aged 25-65 yrs) with medical conditions that increase risk of complications of influenza

WASHTENAW COUNTY

Washtenaw County Public Health Department will provide H1N1 vaccinations at another mass clinic scheduled for Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wristband screening will start at 9:00 a.m. They are available while supplies last. The clinic is happening at the EMU Convocation Center, 799 N. Hewitt, Ypsilanti MI 48197.

High-risk groups include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Home & caregiver contacts of children under 6 months old
  • Children 6 months to 4 years old
  • Children 5 to 18 with certain medical condition
  • Health workers

LIVINGSTON COUNTY

Livingston County Department of Public Health is holding vaccination clinics only for people who have preregistered. Call (517) 546-9850 to schedule an appointment.

High Risk Groups Include:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children from 6 months to 4 years old
  • Those living with or caring for children under 6 months old
  • Children between 5 and 14 with an underlying medical condition

ST. CLAIR COUNTY

The St. Clair County Department of Public Health has set up a number of places to get the H1N1 vaccine. All of the clinics run from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The period from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. is set aside for school students in the building to receive the vaccine. The period from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. is set aside for people in the following high risk groups to get the vaccine.

  • Pregnant women
  • Children between 6 months and 24 years
  • Health care workers/emergency first responders
  • Care givers of children under 6 months of age
  • Anyone 25-64 with an underlying health condition such as asthma, diabetes or any heart/lung condition  

Initial clinics are focused on vaccinating above groups, however any community member can receive vaccination at any clinic location.

The clinics will be held at the following locations:

  • Marysville Middle School - Monday, 11/23/09
  • Port Huron Northern High School- Tuesday, 11/24/09

MONROE COUNTY

Monroe County does not have any H1N1 vaccination clinics currently scheduled.

OAKLAND COUNTY

Oakland County currently has no vaccination clinics scheduled.

Initial supplies of the H1N1 vaccine are limited which means you must be a part of the target population to receive this vaccine at this time. Here is who qualifies:

• Pregnant women
• Children and young adults 6 months through 24 years of age
• Caregivers for children under 6 months of age
• Adults 25 through 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions
• Healthcare and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers
