Ann Arbor police are investigating after a 16-year-old male student was struck and killed near Huron High School this morning.

Fuller Road has since reopened. The female driver who hit the student immediately stopped at the scene.

Police say they believe the student was walking across the street to the high school around 7:20 a.m. when he was struck.

The student did not attend Huron High School, but did attend another school in Ann Arbor. That information is not being released until the student's family has been notified.

Ann Arbor Schools are working to provide grief counseling to help students cope with the loss.

Read the statement from Ann Arbor Schools below:

Dear Ann Arbor Parents, Staff, and Community,

We have some very sad news today.  This morning, 11th grade Community High student, Qi-Xuan “Justin” Tang, was struck by a car while crossing Fuller Road near Huron Parkway and was fatally injured.  Our hearts and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time.

Justin had previously attended Tappan Middle School and has a sibling at Angell. Justin was a highly engaged student at Community High School, an academic high-performer, and was very involved in Community Ensemble Theater.

We want to make you aware of this tragedy, as we know this impacts our schools and our entire Ann Arbor community.

We have grief support teams in place for students and staff and our counselors will continue their work over the coming days as needed. We will offer support at Community, Huron and Tappan as well as at all our other schools across the district as we become aware of students and staff who are impacted by this tremendous loss.

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Justin. Please reach out and support each other. Remember that this hard news affects everyone differently.  Sometimes it really hits hard even for students, parents, and staff who did not know Justin personally. We have included guidelines below to assist as you have conversations with your child.

Let's all reach out to support each other; we will need to remain vigilant for all those who may be struggling across our community just now as this is a particularly tragic and challenging time.

I know that we will join together to send thoughts of loving support to the family and friends of Justin today.

Sincerely,

Jeanice Swift
