Study: iPhone 5 ranks higher for containing toxic chemicals than Galaxy S III

(WXYZ) - A study by the Ann Arbor-based Ecology Center and ifixit.com ranks iPhone 5 higher than Samsung's Galaxy S III for containing toxic chemicals.

The companies researched 36 cell phones and found the new iPhone 5 ranked fifth for containing hazardous chemicals. The most toxic phone, according to the study, is the iPhone 2G.

The Galaxy S III ranked 9 th in the study.

"Even the best phones from our study are still loaded with chemical hazards," stated Jeff Gearhart, research director at the Ecology Center and founder of HealthyStuff.org, on the Website. "We need better federal regulation of these chemicals, and we need to create incentives for the design of greener consumer electronics."
