(WXYZ) - Jonathan Sails has been bound over to stand trial in the death of KeAir Swift.
Back in November, KeAir was drowning in the East Detroit High School pool.
Sails was the substitute teacher at the time. Investigators say he lied about his lifeguard certification and was in no rush to save KeAir. They say he even went to the locker room before jumping in the pool to try and help. The teen was taken off of life support a few days later.
Prosecutors charged Sails with involuntary manslaughter.
His defense attorney argued that the lead teacher was the one who left Sails in charge.
He said what happened was a tragedy, but not a crime.
After testimony from teachers and students, the judge said there's enough evidence for Sails to stand trial.
He's expected back in court later this month.
