The Dearborn Animal Shelter is desperately seeking homes for dogs due to overcrowding

DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) - The holidays are upon us, and what better present is there than adding a new furry member to your family?

To help make the process simple and affordable, the Dearborn Animal Shelter is offering a special on all longer term dogs in its care.

Currently at its capacity with 65 dogs, all of the cages at the shelter are occupied. Half of the canines have been living at the shelter for at least 31 days.

To help encourage people to take home a new pet, the Dearborn Animal Shelter will be offering a "50/50" special where the adoption fee of a dog is just $50. Upon adoption, a $50 voucher for the pooch's first veterinary visit will also be provided.

All of the dogs that have been residing at the shelter for longer than the 31-day period are eligible for the special. Included in the $50 adoption fee are sterilization, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, and of course, a lifetime of loyalty, companionship and tail-wagging.

To see a list of all of the adoptable animals, visit the Dearborn Animal Shelter's website at www.DearbornAnimals.org or their Facebook page .

The Dearborn Animal Shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road in Dearborn.
