NEWBERRY, S.C. - One man was charged with bigamy after police said he was married to four women at the same time.
Police in South Carolina said Darnell Pixley, 49, was charged on a single count and surrendered to deputies last Wednesday, ABC affiliate WJBF reported .
Pixley married a woman in Edgefield County in 1988. He also married a woman in Richland County in 2008, a woman in Sumter County in 2011, and a woman in Newberry County in November 2013, but he never divorced any of them before marrying the other, police said.
His third wife, who declined to be identified, found out about his other wives after seeing wedding pictures of Pixley with another woman on Facebook.
According to a post on the Newberry County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page :
An incident report was filed with the Newberry County Sheriff's Office that the suspect recently married a woman while still married to someone else. Based on the investigation into this matter, it was determined that from December 1988 to November 2013, the suspect married four (4) different women without having divorced any of the previous wives, including his latest victim in Newberry County in November 2013.
Pixley turned himself in to authorities and was later released on a $2,500 bond.
His next court date is scheduled for October.
