(WXYZ) - Some communities are starting to enforce rules prohibiting garbage picking during flood cleanup.
The city of Hazel Park says trash picking is prohibited all of the time, but issued this warning as a reminder:
ATTENTION: Unlicensed scrapping, salvaging and trash picking in the City of Hazel Park is prohibited. Violators are subject to immediate arrest.
The city of Royal Oak also says garbage pickers are not welcome, stating that once trash hits the curb it belongs to the city. Violators could be subject to fines.
The reminders about trash picking come as residents are cleaning out basements and discarding items affected by the severe flooding in metro Detroit.
