Tips to protect your electronics in the summer

(WXYZ) - The summer is all about the beach and the heat and spending extra time outside.

And it's all fun and games until something happens to your cell phone or laptop.

But there are some tips you can follow from AT&T to make sure your summer isn't a bummer when it comes to your mobile devices.

The first tip is to keep your electronics in the shade as much as you can. Direct sunlight can wreak havoc on your battery and cause a temporary loss of screen display.

Secondly, stop stacking your gadgets. Don't put your smartphone on top of your tablet on top of your laptop. Your devices need some breathing room especially when it's hot.

Another tip, don't just leave your mobile devices in your car or trunk. They can easily get damaged from the extreme heat. So just keep it with you in your purse or backpack.

You may also want to avoid leaving your phone or tablet on the dashboard in the direct sunlight when your cruising.

And, remember, if your phone or tablet does overheat, get it out of the sun and wait until it cools down before you use it.

The last tip from AT&T encourages smartphone owners to keep your gadgets clean. They recommend investing in a waterproof case. It also doesn't hurt for you to check your pockets before you jump into the water.
