ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Timothy Beetschen, 50, was charged with one count of Open Murder and one count of First Degree Arson following the investigation of a Royal Oak house fire that took his mother's life.
Beetschen was arraigned in court on May 24. Both charges carry a life sentence.
His next scheduled court date is set for June 6.
69-year-old Maxine Hadley called the Royal Oak Police Department on May 23 around 1 a.m. stating her son was attempting to blow up their house. When officers arrived at the home they found the house in flames and the son outside with a garden hose attempting to put out the fire.
Ms. Hadley was found deceased in the basement where the fire appears to have started. Beetschen was arrested at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Royal Oak Police Criminal Investigations Division, in conjunction with the Oakland County Fire Investigation Unit and Royal Oak Fire Department.
