Vice President Joe Biden reacts to Malaysian plane tragedy in Ukraine during visit to Detroit

While speaking at a convention in Detroit, Vice President Joe Biden addressed the Malaysian Airlines tragedy in eastern Ukraine.

Biden was in Detroit to speak at the annual Netroots convention at Cobo. It's called the largest gathering of progressives in the country.

Early on in his remarks, Biden spoke about the passenger plane that went down. He called it a "grave situation" and said he spoke to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for the better part of a half an hour.

He offered his condolences and support of the U.S. to determine what happened.

Biden said Poroshenko accepted the help and that a team of US experts will be on the way to Ukraine very soon.

The Vice President said the plane had "apparently" had been shot down... "just blown out of the sky," but cautioned that we don't know all the details yet.

"We have seen reports there may have been American citizens on board. We are working every minute to confirm this," he said.
