(WXYZ) - Loved ones gathered to pray and light candles Tuesday night for the young boy nicknamed Lil' D who was found dead in a car in Port Huron last week.
A makeshift memorial sits on the front porch of his home.
The 5-year-old, Derrick Holmon, went missing last Friday from the 2500 block of Manuel in Port Huron where he lived with his family.
An Amber Alert was issued for the boy who had Down syndrome and a heart condition.
Tragically – later that same evening – he was found dead in car just a couple houses down the street.
So far, police believe Derrick wandered away and into the car.
No foul play has been suspected but, instead, police believe that the boy succumbed to the high heat.
Visitation for Derrick will be held this Friday the 18th. He will be laid to rest on Saturday. The family is not asking for any monetary donations, but if you feel like helping, they ask that you make a donation to the local Down syndrome organization.
