Volkswagen is hoping to freshen up its image in the aftermath of the company's emission scandal.

This week, the automaker announced it will be working on a new fleet of electric cars -- and introduced the first in the lineup: the I.D.

VW revealed the new concept vehicle to the world ahead of the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

The I.D., Volkswagen says, comes equipped with an electric motor that can get up to 372 miles on a single charge. That range beats out some of the electric vehicles currently out on the market — like the popular Tesla models.

The company says in a news release that it aims to have the I.D. hitting the road in 2020.

Automation features also make the vehicle ready for the future of driving. According to Volkswagen, an autonomous driving mode will be made available in 2025. The steering wheel would reportedly retract into the dash when that I.D. Pilot mode is on.

Along with the reveal comes a new mission: VW is aiming to sell a million electric cars a year by 2025.
