What is legal under Michigan's fireworks law?

(WXYZ) - In the lead up to Michigan's first 4th of July under Michigan's new fireworks law, many people are wondering which fireworks are now legal in the state.

So called low impact fireworks such as sparklers, snakes, snaps and poppers were legal under Michigan's old law, and remain legal under the new regulations.

Under the new law consumer fireworks such as Roman Candles, Bottle Rockets and other items that leave the ground are now legal.

However, they are regulated under Federal law. Because of that items like Cherry Bombs, M-80s and Silver Salutes are still illegal.

The law prohibits the sale of consumer fireworks to anyone under the age of 18. Anyone under the the influence of drugs and alcohol also cannot purchase fireworks.

It is also illegal to use fireworks on public, school or the private property of another person unless permission is obtained.
