Why aren't the presidential candidates spending money or time in Michigan?

(WXYZ) - An exclusive 7 Action News/Detroit Free Press poll shows the presidential race in Michigan has shrunk to three points within the margin of error, yet the candidates don't seem to be battling enough for our state.

In 2008, President Obama and John McCain spent a combined $22 million on advertising in Michigan--and this year, Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney have not spent any money in our state.

It's also been months since either presidential candidate has been here. However, both campaigns have assured 7 Action News they're not taking Michigan for granted.

Even though both sides have not spent money on television ads here to win your vote--and they don't plan to-- they still say Michigan is a battleground state that matters.
