DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Dearborn Heights police say a woman in her mid-30s was found stabbed to death in a house on the 7400 block of Nightingale Street in Dearborn Heights.
The victim's 38-year-old husband called 911 from the house and told them someone broke in and stabbed his wife to death. But when police arrived they say the husband's story did not make any sense.
"The evidence that was inside the house was not consistent with what was reported to us," said Captain Jeff Seipenko with the Dearborn Heights Police Department. The captain said that based on the evidence and after interviewing the husband they took the husband into custody for his wife's murder.
"We believe there was a domestic violence incident here that led to the stabbing," said Capt. Seipenko.
Sources tell 7 Action News the wife had been stabbed several times. It happened around 5 p.m. in the 7400 block of Nightingale.
Neighbors living nearby say they did not hear anything coming from the home. Many of them had their windows closed with the air conditioning because of the hot weather.
"We are shocked. When the cop told me there was a lady inside there, stabbed to death, I was like, what? " said Riza Sulejamani.
The couple's 16 year-old son had been at Crestwood High School, marching in the band at their football game when he found out about his mother's death. A family friend says they are in disbelief tonight about her death.
"Extremely giving. Anything for these kids. She would do anything for these kids, her own son. My son," said family friend Wendy Roberts. She said the son and his mother have a good relationship.
"They just seemed very close," said Roberts. Many neighbors said that they have never seen any problems over at the house and that the family is liked, they usually keep to themselves but will participate in neighborhood parties. According to neighbors the family has lived here for about four years.
The husband is at the police station. Police are not releasing his wife's name.
