(WXYZ) - WXYZ-TV is pleased to announce the winners of the second annual Detroit 2020 Awards. The awards honor those who exemplify Detroit 2020's motto of Unify. Inspire. Act.
These are the winners selected in each category:
"Unify" award: Gary Wozniak, president of RecoveryPark, an organization created to help revitalize Detroit through innovative job creation projects. The program will increase the availability of fresh food in Detroit and help people in recovery.
"Inspire" award: Riet Schumack, co-founder of Neighbors Building Brightmoor. Riet runs the Brightmoor Youth Garden, where adult volunteers train young people to grow vegetables, sell them at a market and share the profits.
"Act" award: Terry Grahl, founder of Enchanted Makeovers, which transforms long-stay homeless shelters for women and children into places that inspire change in their lives..
The award recipients will be featured in a special program hosted by Stephen Clark and Carolyn Clifford, The Detroit 2020 Awards, on Thursday, April 18th from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on WXYZ-TV. The program will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 21st from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on WXYZ-TV.
More than 100 nominations were received for the Detroit 2020 Awards. The winners were selected by the Detroit 2020 team. The winners will be presented with a Detroit 2020 Award and a cash prize to help further their efforts, during a luncheon at the studios of WXYZ-TV.
"WXYZ is pleased to honor and support those who are making a difference in our communities," said Ed Fernandez, Scripps divisional vice-president and vice-president and general manager of WXYZ. "We believe highlighting the important work of these individuals and groups will inspire others to take action."
