(WXYZ) - WXYZ names Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr as the 2013 Newsmaker of the Year.
Orr will be featured on Channel 7's weekly public affairs/information program Spotlight on the News, hosted by WXYZ Editorial Director Chuck Stokes, Sunday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m.
The program will feature an in-depth interview with Orr who talks about Detroit's bankruptcy case, his family, his role models, his failures and success and how his life has changed since becoming the Motor City's emergency manager.
Spotlight on the News: WXYZ Newsmaker of the Year, recognizes individuals who have had significant impact on southeastern Michigan and the image of the region.
Previous WXYZ Newsmakers include John Engler, Debbie Stabenow, Dennis Archer, Eleanor Josaitis, Peter Karmanos, Mitch Albom, Max Fisher, Rick Snyder, Justin Verlander and Dan Gilbert.
Orr holds his bachelor and law degrees from the University of Michigan.
The native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida began his legal career with a prestigious corporate law firm in Miami, Florida.
After holding several legal positions in the U.S. government, in 2001 he joined as a partner of the Washington, D.C. office of the international law firm Jones Day.
During his years at the highly respected firm, Orr represented Chrysler in its much publicized 2009 bankruptcy and restructuring procedure.
