DETROIT (WXYZ) - If you're a young person looking for a job this summer, read on!
The Second Annual Youth Employment Summit is hoping to find employment for 333 young people in the greater Detroit area this summer.
Thanks to the support of the DTE Energy Foundation, which is funding a grant of $500,000, along with the help of City Connect Detroit, there will be jobs for that 14-24 age group.
The Youth Employment Program begins in July. But applications will be taken in June. For information call 313-879-1476, or go to: www.growdetroitsyoungtalent.org
The jobs are created to help these young people get the knowledge and skills they need to someday make it in the future workforce. DTE Energy Foundation and vice president of DTE Energy Fred Shell says: "“Summer employment is one of the best ways to help young people prepare for their future and to start them on the road to success.”
Founding President and strategic executive consultant Dr. Geneva J. Williams says: "DTE Energy Foundation’s generous gift will allow us to make a tremendous step forward in transforming our community by increasing job opportunities for young people,”
In the past, the City of Detroit has given jobs to 2,000 to 2,500 people through the Summer Youth Program.
