YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - It started with a boy and his bike - thinking it was safe to ride around the neighborhood - when a man came up to the boy and grabbed him.
“The dude came out of the bushes," said Ramello Williams, "He grabbed my leg and then I fell down on my elbow.”
Just outside his Ypsilanti home, Ramello, 9, was riding his bike with his God-sister, when a man lunged for him. Ramello managed to get away, but not before noticing the stranger was armed.
“I kicked him off me." said Ramello, "I kicked him in his face and then he pulled out his gun and said, ‘I'm gonna kill you.'"
“Well, at first I’m like, 'Could this be true?' said Ramello's mother Resha Williams, "But he has no reason to lie about it. And he just had sheer panic on his face.”
“My heart started beating fast and stuff." said Ramello, "I just told [my God-sister] to run, and it looked like he was chasing after us.”
Even more concerning, this wasn’t the only case of stranger danger near Quarterback Court Tuesday night. Ypsilanti Police say a man in a truck tried to talk a 15-year-old girl into climbing into his vehicle.
It’s got neighbors in this quiet apartment complex concerned.
"It just doesn’t happen here." said neighbor Bridgit Peeper, "I mean we picked this neighborhood because it’s quiet. You come around the corner, you halfway miss it. And now to hear all this happening, it's crazy.”
“It could have went sour real fast." said Resha Williams, "So I’m glad he knew to kick and run.”
Police describe the suspect as a biracial man in his 30s or 40s with a buzz cut. If you have any information, you're asked to call Ypsilanti Police.
