DETROIT (WXYZ) - Miguel Cabrera was scheduled to return to the lineup Friday night for the Tigers' series opener against the Chicago White Sox. But things changed when Jim Leyland announced he will be scratched for the game. Cabrera also missed Wednesday's game because of an aggravated left abdominal strain.
Replacing Cabrera in the lineup will be his newest teammate, rookie infielder Jose Iglesias, who was acquired from Boston in a three-team trade that also sent outfielder Avisail Garcia to the White Sox.
Iglesias was slated at second base and bat ninth, but now that changed as he will slide to third base and bat seventh. Matt Tuiasosopo will bat third for the Tigers. Jhonny Peralta will still be the team's shortstop until more information is released about the Biogenesis investigation.
Major League Baseball is expected to suspend a number of players in the next few days, and reports indicate Peralta's name could be on that list.
To make room for Iglesias, the Tigers optioned second baseman Hernan Perez to Erie (AA).
