DETROIT (WXYZ) - Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski confirmed this afternoon that Miguel Cabrera suffered a Grade 2 or 3 groin tear in August and will likely undergo surgery this offseason.
According to Dombrowski, Cabrera had recovered from his previous abdominal injury when he injured his groin sliding into second base against the White Sox on August 29.
Cabrera was clearly limited on the field and at the plate for the remainder of the season and his production dropped dramatically. He did not discuss his injury with reporters in the Tigers clubhouse following Saturday's Game 6 loss in Boston.
