DETROIT - It's looking more and more likely Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander won't take the mound in this year's All-Star game.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland told reporters last year's American League All-Star Game starter is scheduled to pitch on July 14, two days before the All-Star Game in New York
By rule, pitchers who start on the Sunday before the Tuesday Midsummer Classic aren't eligible to take the hill.
Verlander won't know if he made the AL All-Star team this season until the roster is revealed July 6 and the only way he could participate is if Jim Leyland, this year's AL All-Star manager, agreed to a one-inning limit or pitch count with the pitcher's team.
Verlander's teammate, Max Scherzer is scheduled to pitch the Saturday before the All-Star Game and would be eligible to pitch should he be named the American League's starting pitcher as expected after improving his record to 11-0.
