DETROIT - Willie Horton is one of the good guys in the Detroit sports community. The Tigers great is recovering from neck surgery, but his Batting for Kids event went on without a hitch - and with plenty of smiles.
More than 450 urban and suburban children ages 5-15 competed in a baseball competition that included base running, hitting and throwing. Additionally, coaches led the kids in demonstration clinics.
Batting for Kids helped Don Bosco Hall and the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities.
