Following the home runs in consecutive at-bats, Miguel Cabrera was hit by a pitch from Edison Frias, who was immediately ejected.
Starting pitcher Justin Verlander threw two scoreless innings, giving up a hit, striking out two and walking one. Blaine Hardy (1-0) took the win for Detroit.
