(WXYZ) - Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has announced the team's plan for the starting rotation following the All-Star break.
Anibal Sanchez is slated to pitch in the opener of a four-game series against Cleveland on Friday at Comerica Park.
Max Scherzer will pitch the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Scherzer's last start was a 4-1 win over the Dodgers on July 9. He has the most time in between starts for the Tigers.
Ausmus said the original plan was to have Scherzer pitch before Sanchez. However, given that Scherzer will more than likely throw an inning for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star Game, the two were flip-flopped.
The Tigers opted for Drew Smyly over Justin Verlander for Sunday's series finale. The Indians' lineup is one that caters to Smyly-the only lefty in Detroit's starting rotation-because of the amount of left-handed bats that are featured.
Verlander and Rick Porcello will start the first two games of a series at Arizona on Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22.
Ausmus did not announce the Tigers' starter for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Triple-A Toledo's Robbie Ray, who made three starts for the Tigers in May, seems to be the most likely choice.
