DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with a group of players on Friday, agreeing to deals with Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello, Austin Jackson, Andy Dirks and Al Alburquerque
Scherzer headlines the group and will make $15.525 million. Porcello will make $8.5 million next season, while outfielders Jackson will make $6 million and Dirks will make $1.625 million. The figures were first reported by Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Today is the last day teams and players can offer a salary number. If the sides cannot agree upon a deal before February 1, the case goes to arbitration. There, one of the figures is picked.
Alex Avila is the sole Tigers player still eligible for salary arbitration.
