Pistons big storyline heading into NBA draft

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Now that the NBA draft has arrived, what options do the Pistons really have at No. 38?

Let's take Greg Monroe's situation for starters.

As Pistons TV analyst Gregory Kelser told us this week, Monroe is a reliable player who will give you 16 points and 10 boards on average a night. In short, the Moose brings value to a Pistons team that's still trying to find its consistency.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Pelicans could be a team for Monroe to join. The newspaper reported that the Pelicans have discussed a potential sign-and-trade with the Pistons that would land Monroe in New Orleans.

Since Monroe will become a restricted free agent this summer, there's a few options: trade him now; trade him later; sign him to a qualifying offer that would be worth a little over $5 million, which means he would be an unrestricted free agent next summer, or lock up Monroe to a long-term deal.

For now, we await to see whether the Pistons make something happen to move up in the draft.

Otherwise, we'll see what options are on the table for Detroit at No. 38.
