Detroit Belle Isle to host two Indy Car Series races in 2013

Belle Isle one of three "Doubleheader Weekends"

The IZOD Indy Car Series announced Sunday Belle Isle will be one of three venues in the world to host two Indy Car Series races during the 2013 season.

The two races will be run on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 as part of a new "Doubleheader Weekend" initiative being introduced by the Indy Car Series.  The other doubleheaders will be hosted in Toronto and Houston.

Belle Isle will be the first venue to host a doubleheader weekend.

Last season's race at Belle Isle was marred by the track's disintegration which resulted in a red flag and a shortening of the race.  Scott Dixon won the shortened race, his first win at Belle Isle.

The track has already undergone restorations and will continually be upgraded in the months leading up to the Indy Car Series return to Detroit.

Both races being run at the Raceway at Belle Isle in 2013 will be televised live by WXYZ.
