Detroit Police investigate sexual assault accusations against Tigers pitcher Evan Reed

(WXYZ) - The Detroit Police are investigating accusations of sexual assault against Tigers pitcher Evan Reed.

7 Action News has learned Reed was at Motor City Casino in Detroit last week where he was seen with a young blonde woman on the gaming floor. Video clearly showed the couple playing casino games and mixing among the casino floor crowd.

But later that evening, sources say, the girl appeared drunk and Reed was seen on video with the girl entering a casino hotel room. The next morning, video shows Reed leave first, then the girl.

We're told the girl told a casino worker of the sexual assault, and then casino security called police.

Detroit police say they are investigating Reed, but there is no warrant yet for his arrest.

The Detroit Tigers released the following statement on Monday night:

The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed. This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an on-going investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time.

The law firm that represents Reed says they are confident that once a thorough investigation is complete, "Mr. Reed will have nothing to fear."

The statement from Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C. reads:

During the infancy of this investigation, no one should formulate any conclusions that a crime has been committed. Mr. Reed is currently on a 7-day West Coast road trip and has not been contacted by the Detroit Police Department. We plan on cooperating with the investigation when the time is appropriate. Until then, no further comment will be made by me or Mr. Reed.
