DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Tigers announced Friday they have acquired shortstop Andrew Romine from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for pitcher Jose Alvarez.
Romine, 28, appeared in 47 games for the Angels in 2013, and batted .259 with nine runs, three doubles, and 10 RBI's. He played games at second and third base, as well as shortstop. He made his major league debut in 2010.
Alvarez, 24, spent most of 2013 with the Toledo Mud Hens, and was named the Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the year.
The trade comes after the team confirmed that shortstop Jose Iglesias has stress fractures in both legs, and will miss between 4-6 months of action.
