ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - During a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger delivered this message about facing the Lions defensive line:
"You've got to be careful. You'll end up dead if you're not careful."
Roethlisberger wasn't being serious; however, his comments spurred a lot of chatter with the Lions.
"I wouldn't say kill someone, but if we stay alive in our rushes, sooner or later we're going to get there," said Nick Fairley, a Lions defensive tackle, with a smile.
"He's the type of quarterback that's going to hold the ball to extend plays and watching, coach was telling us that this morning, you know, we just gotta stay alive. We can be on one side of the field and he can reverse and come back to you so just stay alive in the rush and that's what we're going to try and harp on."
The Lions, who have recorded 15 sacks so far, know it's more than Roethlisberger they'll have to worry about on Sunday.
Detroit strong safety Glover Quin addressed the challenges of the secondary trying to cover Jerricho Cotchery.
"Anytime you find somebody who's been in the league eight, nine, 10 years obviously those guys are doing things the right way," said Quin. "Sometimes when you have older guys, they've been around so much they know how to get the job done, and he's one of those guys. He's been around for a long time.
"He's made a bunch of plays and obviously, you know, he's catching a lot of touchdowns this year."
