Calvin Johnson sits out Lions practice

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Calvin Johnson made history the last time he was on a football field. Wednesday, he sat out practice as he continues his pursuit of 2,000 receiving yards.

The Lions wide receiver was one of four players to miss the team's first workout since Sunday.

Safety Louis Delmas, tight end Brandon Pettigrew, and defensive tackle Sammie Hill also sat out.

Johnson broke Jerry Rice's single season receiving yards record in the Lions loss to the Falcons Saturday night. He needs just 104 yards in the team's finale to break the individual per-game average for wide receivers. Charley Hennigan set that mark with a 124.7 yards per game average in 1961.

Delmas (knee) has started the last two games but Pettigrew hasn't played or practiced since injuring his ankle in the first quarter of Detroit's loss to Green Bay three weeks ago.
