DETROIT (WXYZ) - It was hard to find anyone who did not have an opinion on coach Schwartz's departure. Fans seem to be split. Some Lions fans expected the move to happen.
"I think it's blessing in disguise," said Andy Kash. "Jim Schwartz has been a coach here for a while. Just haven't had any winning seasons. So I think it's blessing in disguise for Detroit."
"I think it's just the nature of the business," said Sam Bills. "I like Coach Schwartz but you can't fall that short at the end of the year and expect to remain. It's unfortunate but we got to move on."
Other fans were caught of guard.
"That's shocking," said Joe Curtis. "I feel like he's made a lot of progress in the time that he was coach. So I don't know. Maybe it is time for a change… maybe it's not. I don't know."
"It's not all his fault," said Harley Roop. "They played as good as they could at the beginning of the season. It's just like hockey or whatever… just the way the ball falls."
Many Lions fans told 7 Action News the change makes them optimistic about next season.
"It's time for some change," said Carlene Bills. "I kind of thought they would get rid of Statfford and a couple of folks in the front office but they are going in the right direction. They are making change."
