Jahvid Best to remain on PUP list, will miss rest of season

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best will miss the remainder of the 2012 season, the team announced Friday.

Best, who has been on the physically unable to perform list all season, will remain sidelined on the list for the duration of the season. The running back has been out with lingering concussion problems since last year.

"There has been subsequent evaluation and consultation regarding Jahvid since our last update (October 15)," Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Martin Mayhew said.

"As has been the case throughout, we have deferred to the medical experts and support their current recommendation that Jahvid not return to the field this season.

The designation doesn't come as a surprise, but the major questions now face Best's future in the NFL.

"As disappointing as this decision is for us and Jahvid, we do believe it is in his long-term best interest."

In six games in 2011, Best gained 390 yards and scored two touchdowns. During his rookie year in 2010, he played in all 16 games, picking up 555 yards and scoring four touchdowns.
