ALLEN PARK, Mich. - It's good to be Jeff Daniels these days.
The Michigan-born actor is a first-time Emmy nominee, he recently joined the hole-in-one club , and Tuesday, he chose to visit Lions practice the same day Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer was in attendance.
The avid Detroit sports fan made his annual trip to Allen Park, talking with players and watching practice with Team President Tom Lewand.
When Scherzer strolled out onto the field, the actor picked his brain, motioning through pitching sequences with the Tigers starter.
"I didn't expect that," Scherzer said of Daniels being at practice.
"I know he's a huge Detroit fan, follows all the sports teams. So it's pretty cool to share that with him."
Daniels recently wrapped the second season of The Newsroom on HBO. He plays Will McAvoy, a role that earned him a Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series.
