DETROIT - The Detroit Lions have unveiled the lead sponsor for their new bowl game.
The Quick Lane Bowl will kickoff at Ford Field on December 26, airing on ESPN at 4:30 p.m.
Lions President Tom Lewand announced the team's partnernship with Quick Lane Tire and Auto Center on Tuesday.
“With a national platform to showcase the city of Detroit as well as Southeast Michigan football tradition, it was important for us to partner with an organization like Quick Lane who has a strong local and national presence,” Lewand said in a statement.
“We look forward to collaborating to institute a great bowl game tradition at Ford Field for years to come.”
The game will pit an ACC team against a Big Ten team, as determined by both conferences at the end of the regular season.
Detroit has played host to a bowl game since 2002, when the Motor City Bowl moved from the Pontiac Silverdome to Ford Field. The game was renamed the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in 2009. Last week, that bowl was canceled.
The Lions are the second NFL team to operate a college football bowl game, joining the Houston Texans.
Tickets for the new bowl game will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. this Thursday at the Ford Field box office, on quicklanebowl.com, or by calling (877) 212-8898.
