NFL Draft officially moving from April to May

(WXYZ) - The NFL Draft is being bumped from April to May in 2014, according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The rumor was confirmed by Goodell at the NFL spring meetings in Boston on Tuesday.

A scheduling conflict was the primary reason for the move to April. Radio City Music Hall, the long-time host of the NFL Draft, will host an Easter show throughout the month of April forcing the draft to be delayed, according to Goodell.

The commissioner went on to say that he expects the draft to remain in the month of May in future years as well.

Trying to hold the draft in May this year would have forced the NFL to look for a different venue, and Goodell emphasized he was happy with the league's relationship with Radio City Music Hall.

"We think we have found a location in New York that meets our requirements and where we think we can continue to grow the event," he said.

As far as how free agency and the NFL combine will be affected, Goodell said he will be in discussions with the players' union.

"This is not secretive. We share what the overall strategy is and what we are trying to accomplish with the players," Goodell said.

"We went to them initially to do that, to get their feedback. We want to make sure we do it right, and that includes getting player input."
