WXYZ-TV presenting a full season of Detroit Lions football as the team's official TV partner

(WXYZ) - Hey Detroit…are you ready for some football?

WXYZ-TV is ready! We’re teaming up with the Detroit Lions to bring you all the action, with exclusive coverage of all four preseason games and weekly Lions GameDay LIVE shows, plus weekly interviews with Coach Caldwell and key Lions players. The players…the plan…your first preview… all on Channel 7 and now on WMYD TV20.

The season kicks off with a special edition of Lions Training Camp LIVE on Wednesday, July 30th from 7:30-8:00 p.m. Lions fans will get a sideline seat for all the action, and hear from new Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell on his strategy for a winning 2014 season.

WXYZ will produce and broadcast all four Detroit Lions preseason games, including Lions Tailgate, a special half-hour pregame show before every game. The shows will feature interviews with key coaches and players along with an analysis of the opposing team.

NFL broadcast veteran Matt Shepard, NFL analyst Rob Rubick, and Lions great, Herman Moore, will anchor preseason coverage, with sideline reporting from 7 Action News Sports Director Tom Leyden.

Here’s the schedule:

  • Saturday, August 9th, 7:00 p.m. pregame, 7:30 p.m., Detroit vs. Cleveland Browns (home)
  • Friday, August 15th, 9:30 p.m. pregame, 10:00 p.m., Detroit at Oakland Raiders
  • Friday, August 22nd, 7:00 p.m. pregame, 7:30 p.m., Detroit vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (home)
  • Thursday, August 28th, 6:30 p.m. pregame, 7:00 p.m., Detroit at Buffalo Bills

Then, every Sunday during the regular season from 11 a.m. - noon, Lions fans will get inside all the gridiron action on Lions GameDay LIVE, the official pregame show of the Detroit Lions. The show will include exclusive interviews, insider game strategy, and special features that put fans right on the line of scrimmage as the ball is snapped. The program is hosted by Tom Leyden, Rob Rubick, and Herman Moore.

Football fans across Michigan can watch the show on a state-wide television network.

New this season, fans can enjoy special postgame coverage led by Tom Leyden immediately following the games on Lions PostGame LIVE, on WMYD, TV20 and Detroitlions.com. The wrap-up will include interviews with coaches and key players, along with postgame analysis.

Every Monday on 7 Action News at 7:00 p.m., fans will get the latest Lions info, straight from the coach, on “Caldwell’s Corner,” Tom Leyden’s in-depth interview with Detroit Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell.

Then, every Thursday on 7 Action News at 7:00 p.m., Tom Leyden will take fans Inside the Huddle to deliver unique, on-the-field insight from key Lions players.

WXYZ will be THE place for all the action when the Detroit Lions take on the New York Giants in their Monday Night Football season opener. The must-see Monday Night Football game on September 8th kicks off with pregame coverage at 6:00 p.m. followed by the game at 7 p.m. and postgame coverage following the game.

In October, when the Lions travel across the pond, WXYZ will be there to bring you all the excitement live from London. It’s the Lions versus the Atlanta Falcons and Channel 7 will bring you close to the action with live prime-time coverage on Friday, Oct. 24, 8-9:30 p.m. and live pregame coverage on Sunday, Oct. 26 beginning at 7 a.m.

Throughout the season, Lions fans can stay connected on WXYZ.com. The site will include a dedicated “Lions Locker Room” page that will feature the latest on the team, including Detroit Lions promotions and ticket giveaways.
